This past weekend the following orchestra students participated in State contest in Austin and produced some very positive results.

Crystal Chen-Goodspeed 2nd division cello solo (excellent)

KUDOS to him and his dedication/passion for musicALEX LATHROM who earned a superior rating at State Solo and Ensemble last week was also awarded the OUTSTANDING SOLOIST Medal. There are close to 2,000 students from around the state who compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest and depending on the year the judges can award 125-150 of these medals. (This is the top 1%) The last year for a Mayde Creek HS choir student to earn this medal was in 2006….that was Zachary Bryant and Keith Lathrom (Alex’s older brother). In addition to all of this great news, Alex is one of two students from Katy ISD to earn this award. He is the ONLY vocalist from Katy ISD.!

Julie Goetzman from MCHS FFA has been awarded a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship through the National FFA Foundation.
