From Annette Baldwin:
We thank Amy Davis at Channel 2 News for this information.
After you have read the attached from Channel 2 news, please check your electric bill and see if you, too, are being charged this tax which is for Houston city residents only. It seems that the resellers in the marketplace are not doing their mapping very well, and are not attempting to drop this tax from their computer systems.
I contacted the reseller for my business and was given the run-around by a call center in India.....twice. They told me that they couldn't do anything as that what CenterPoint charged them. Well, after the second call, I did a "live chat" with someone in India and got a contact email address and sent them a copy of the complaint that I had quickly filed with the PUC. The electric reseller's representative in Florida called me back within two hours. This customer service rep said that corporate told him to contact me and let me know they are working on the problem. We talked about the inability of their India call center to handle problems such as this one. Meanwhile the PUC will be notifying Accent/Dynowatt that they must refund to all customers in the unincorporated area of Harris County.
The lady who sent this out has already received her refund from TXU.
This tax is not charged to people who pay MUD taxes and/or are not charged city of Houston property taxes.
Get yourself a refund just in time for the holidays!
My best,
Annette
