MCHS Fire Incident

From MCHS:

Today we had to evacuate the building at approximately 10:45 because there was a small fire in an upstairs boys restroom which created smoke.  Due to the inclement weather, students were moved out of the main building to the gyms under the direction of the Katy Fire Department.  We were out of class for a little more than an hour but all students were served lunch and we were on a revised bell schedule for the remainder of the day.  There was never any immediate danger to any students or staff.  KISD Maintenance and the Katy Fire Department did a very good job in helping us get back to normal.  MCHS staff also did a good job monitoring and directing students despite the rain.
The incident is under investigation.

MCJH Volleyball Results!

Last night the 8A volleyball team came alive against McMeans. The Gators stunned the Bobcats winning the first game of the match. The Gators battled through the next two and fell just short of winning the match. But, the team came together and played a fantastic match. The match was truly a team effort. Haley Paulsen, Alexis Jones, and Tenea Johnson played unstoppable defense for the Gators. Amanda Rackel and Kally Schroeder helped the offensive attack on the Bobcats. Maelyn Tonder and Jessica Johnson took charge at the net. Setters, Tara Haugvoll, Tiffany Richardson, and Carly Wright were outstanding in taking control and running the offense. Kelli Martinez and Jessica Copp both came in and helped keep the Gators rolling. The players of the week are the entire Gator Team. Great Job Ladies! Next week the Gators will travel down the road to take down the little ponies from Cardiff JH. Go get ‘em Gators!!!
>
> The Gator B Team also played a dazzling match. The Gators lost the match, but only by a total of 4 points for the whole match! The incredible team effort was led by player of the week Taliah Lopez. Also helping out for the Gators were Jaki Cotton, Anna Chirinos, Jasmine Pitre, and Hannah Hightower who played great defense. Stacy Molina added great serving while Briana Donis, Shenaya Thomas, Cheri Nowlin, and Jakie Flores also came up big for the Gators.

Check your electric bill!

From Annette Baldwin:

We thank Amy Davis at Channel 2 News for this information.

After you have read the attached from Channel 2 news, please check your electric bill and see if you, too, are being charged this tax which is for Houston city residents only.  It seems that the resellers in the marketplace are not doing their mapping very well, and are not attempting to drop this tax from their computer systems.

I contacted the reseller for my business and was given the run-around by a call center in India.....twice.  They told me that they couldn't do anything as that what CenterPoint charged them.  Well, after the second call, I did a "live chat" with someone in India and got a contact email address and sent them a copy of the complaint that I had quickly filed with the PUC.  The electric reseller's representative in Florida called me back within two hours.  This customer service rep said that corporate told him to contact me and let me know they are working on the problem.  We talked about the inability of their India call center to handle problems such as this one.  Meanwhile the PUC will be notifying Accent/Dynowatt that they must refund to all customers in the unincorporated area of Harris County.

The lady who sent this out has already received her refund from TXU.

This tax is not charged to people who pay MUD taxes and/or are not charged city of Houston property taxes.

Get yourself a refund just in time for the holidays!

My best,
Annette

MCHS Volleyball Update

Week of October 6th-10th

9th grade A team had two exciting wins over Katy and Morton Ranch the girls have improved their district record to 2-3 and look at starting second round of district with a bang against 7 Lakes. Great blocks by Tori Herbert, and great attacks by Maria Galvan.

The Freshman B volleyball team beat Katy on Tuesday night in a very close match: 25-21, 25-23.    The girls worked hard as a team to fight to the end of this close match. On Friday the 9B team lost in a close match on Friday against Morton.  The girls started slow in the first game but came back to win 25-17.   Despite strong serving by Olivia Palmer in the second game the Rams lost 22-25.  The third game went point for point as the girls fought to the end.  The third games final score was 23-25.

JV Team took on Katy on Tuesday and the girls started off strong but were unable to come out with a win. Great back row defense by Veronica Franz. On Friday night the JV came close to a win in the first match 21-25. The girls fought hard in the second game, but came up short 14-25. Great serves came from Monica Flores and great hard work on the front row by Erica Pena, Haley Portales, and Savanna Luke.

The varsity team came close to two wins this past week. Taking Katy to three close games and Morton Ranch to four close games.  The girls have made so much improvement since the start of the season. The kill leader for the Katy game was Melanie Moyer with 7 kills. Melanie Moyer and Katie Fuchs were the kill leaders for the Morton Rnahc game with 6 kills each. Great setting and defense by Shelbi LeMeilluer. Great defense also by our libero Nicole Miller.

MCHS - SLHS BARNBURNER!!!! , link to Katy Times Article

Most Exciting MCHS Football Game EVER!  What a night! Too bad it was a Thursday so more people could have been there, if you missed it, YOU MISSED IT!

Alex and William had a swimmeet against Memorial, so after Alex's swims we rushed out of the Nat, grabbed his band gear and raced to Rhodes. Alex told me that after swimming the 200 and marching the hard program, he would surely pass out.  Being the sypathetic, caring mother that I am, I told him he would be fine, he's young.
My friend Beverly was texting me, they are going on the field, 3 mins. til the end of the quarter, score 0-0. I dropped Alex off near the band buses and he ran to join the Mighty RAM BAND.  I found Beverly and we watched a great halftime show from both groups, Seven Lakes has a big band and great contest show.  Both bands dedicated their show to the boy from SL who was killed in a car accident last week.

After halfttime, Mayde Creek scored and got the extra point,Then SL scored and got the extra point.  MC scores, 14-7 11:55 to go in the game.  At 5:27 to go, score is still 14-7.  Then SL scores!  14-14, 1:39 to go in the game! At 9:26 pm. Overtime starts, and the FUN begins.

I'm not exactly sure how it works but you start on the 25 and have 4 downs to score.  Then the other team does the same thing from the same spot in the field. If one team scores, the other has their chance.  Keep making first downs and you keep going.  First team that doesn't score during their possession loses!

First overtime:        MC 21 SL 21
Second overtime:    MC 28 SL 28
Third overtime:        MC 34 SL 34 - at this overtime, both teams must try for the 2 point conversion. both fail.
Fourth overtime, SL has possession, FUMBLESMC recovers! We get the ball!  We score! We WIN!  40-34

That was a much needed win for MCHS.  I heard that the coach had the kids turn in their uniforms last week and re-issued them, signifying a new start, new season.  It worked!  At the Athletic Booster Club Meeting last week we were talking about district stats for MCHS, I found them in the Katy Times:

Team Defense: second behind Seven Lakes
Passing: Luke Lenonard, first in district
Recieving, Brady Atkinson, first in district
Punting, Yuri Flores, first in district
Punt Returns, Keith Schulke, second in district
Kickoff Returns, Darius Rosario and Keith Schulke, first and second in district

Also at the MCHS ABC meeting were talking about membership.  We really need members!  Please remember the ABC supports ALL MC athletic teams, not just football.  Heck, there are 4 swimparents on the executive board!  Please join the booster club and come the the meetings, Monday nites in the Team Room.  7:00 p.m.
