Sports News

Girls Basketball - Girls basketball is starting off like gangbusters. They have defeated Baytown, Stratford and Cy-Ridge making all three teams 3-0. The Stratford game went into overtime and with 20 seconds to play and with a 3 point deficit, Breanna Keys hit a three point shot to tie the game. Breanna came through again with a running bank shot as the buzzer went off to win. Come out and support our Lady Rams!

Boys Basketball - The Varsity basketball boys beat Cy-Fair 68-64 and were led in scoring by Dominique Thomas, Evan Stewart, and Aaron Turner.

Boys Golf - David Fuentes placed third at the Summer Creek Invitational golf tournament. His teammates also did well in the tournament: Daniel Guevara, Mark Evans, Hagen Barmasse, and Andrew Rando.

DEBATE

At the Spring Woods tournament all three of our varsity members, Danny Alexander, Kathy Phan and Sehar Hirani advanced to quarterfinals and Sehar advanced to semi-finals and won third place at the tournament. In addition, Eddie Reyes won third place in Student Congress and Jazmyn Hunter advanced to semi-finals, Ada Bonner advanced to semi-finals in Poetry, Phoung Nguyen advanced to semi-finals in Prose, Danny Alexander advanced to semi-finals in Impromptu and Eddie Reyes advanced to semi-finals in Extemporaneous Speaking.

MCHS Project Grad Poinsetta SALE HUGE SUCCESS!!

The Poinsettia Fundraiser has been better than expected! Thanks to everyone for all your hard work! We sold many more plants than projected. Project Grad 2010 outsold last year by 40%! Way to go!!!!!



However, the grower is unable to fulfill our demand for Burgundy colored poinsettias. They have plenty of Red or Pink available to substitute. I am sorry to disappoint anyone looking forward to burgundy flowers, but hope that Pink or Red will be an acceptable substitute. I will attempt to contact each Burgundy customer to determine their substitute color preference.



The delivery date from the grower has changed. Please pick up your Poinsettias at the Mayde Creek High School PAC on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3 between 4pm and 7pm.

Taylor HS Band up for Best Marching Band, Click to VOTE!

On October 2, 2009 the Seven Lakes High School band family lost a member, Matthew Schmitt, in a car accident. This loss is felt strongly by the entire Spartan Band family. In response, there were many acts of kindness in honor of Matt and in support of our kids and program which were greatly appreciated. One group in particular, the James E. Taylor High School band, went above and beyond in their outreach to our kids—from hosting a ice cream party to changing their drill to spell out “7 L” to spending the day with the Spartan band last Friday in preparation and performing the BEST HALFTIME SHOW EVER!

Besides being good people, the JET band is an outstandingly talented marching band.

The JET band has been nominated for “Houston’s Best Marching Band,” and we need to help them achieve this honor by VOTING for them! Here’s the link where you can vote:

Send in Your Support Letter for the Trail Project

From the KatyFit Blog today:

The city of Houston Parks & Recreation Department is considering applying for a TxDOT grant to fund the captioned trail. TxDOT funding does not occur often, the last time was in 2004; therefore, this represents a rare opportunity to get this trail funded and built. Please read and copy the sample letter below and send to the city to be with their grant application. The deadline for submission to TxDOT is Dec. 11, so your early attention to this would be very much appreciated.

If you represent a homeowner association, company or other organization, using your organization's letterhead would be most effective. In particular, we are asking the following HOA's to send letters of support: Barker's Branch, Barker's Ridge, Creek Bend Estates, Estates @ Cullen Park, Green Trails, Lake Ridge, Oak Ridge Park, Rolling Green, Silvermill, Westfield, Westfield Estates, Westlake Forest/Place/Village and Wood Fern.

Connects the 28.6 mile George Bush/Terry Hershey trail system south of I-10 with the 7.1 mile Cullen/Bear Creek/Mayde Creek trail system north of I-10, creating an extensive safe off-road connected trail system of 36.7 miles

Connects 6 parks by off-road trail (Bear Creek, Bill Archer, Cullen, Harris County Pct. #3 Sports Park, George Bush & Terry Hershey)

Provides bicycle access to the Alkek Velodrome, one of only 22 in the nation

Provides residents north & west of I-10 & Barker Cypress a commuting bikeway to Park 10, Energy Corridor, Enclave & Westchase business areas

Provides a safe off-road pathway to Mayde Creek Jr. & Sr. High Schools for residents south & east of Cullen Park.

Trail link across I-10 at Barker Cypress via the new pedestrian friendly underpass

Provides access to the new Texas Children's & Methodist hospitals

Connects to many additional neighborhood greenbelts and bikeways

This trail would improve the health of area residents & reduce traffic & pollution

English II Parents

After winter break, students will be working on a multi-faceted, multi-cultural research project.  To enhance this learning opportunity, students are required to read one of the following novels listed below.  Students will be expected to complete the majority of this reading independently over the break.

In order to make obtaining the required novel easier for you and your student, the MCHS English Department is providing an opportunity for students to purchase the books here, at MCHS, for a reduced price.  To take advantage of this opportunity, your student will need to bring the amount of money circled below (payment may be made by cash or a check made out to “MCHS”) by Thursday, November 12, 2009.  If payment is not received by this date, it will be the student’s responsibility to obtain a copy of the book for reading.

Run with the RAMS: 

Come run with the RAM Varsity Football players before the Morton Ranch game this Saturday. This is for boys and girls elementary and jr. high age. Kids should line up by 5:45 on the field by the helmet and will run out with the team at 5:55.  They will line up with the players for the National Anthem and return to their seats through the gates.  Remember we are VISITORS.

Door to Door Selling

There have been people going door to door in some subdivisions claiming to be selling fundraisers to make money for basketball uniforms at MCHS, etc.  These people do not represent MCHS - uniforms are provided by the district.

GREAT STUDENT NEWS!!!!

Golf - The Lady Rams golf team was led by Jenny Kang who shot 74-75 to finish in 2nd place at the River Ridge Katy/Ft. Bend Challenge. Victoria leal and Hayley Hughes shot well and completed the team.

Ryan Roseberry placed 2nd individually by shooting a 71-70.  The varsity team shot a total of 307 which is one of the lowest team totals in school history due to the contributions of Anthony Syrko, Nick Pierce, David Fuentes, and Hagen Barmasse.  Way to go Golfers!

MCHS Cross Country Team Headed to Regionals!

From MCHS Cross Country Coach:

The cross country runners ran tough this morning through mud and rain.  They did not let anything effect them on their way to qualifying for regionals.  The varsity girls finished 3^rd only 11 points out of first and 7 from second.  They were led by Ashleigh Fuelling (4^th), Isabel Balbontin (8^th) and Tiffany Messenger (10^th).  The other varsity girls are Jennifer Molina, Bridget Clark, Jocelyn Judge and Lauren Shedd.  This is only the 5^th time in school history that the girls have qualified for regionals.  The boys also finished third in a hard fought race.  The boys were led by Fidel Leon (9^th) and Nick Dalheim (10^th).  The other varsity boys are Sarang Joshi, Isaiah Chavira, Derek Jones, Zavier Bonilla, and Alex Cui.  The freshman boys also finished 3^rd as a team in their race.  They were led by Kevin Arguello (6^th) and Jacob Galindo (10^th).  The rest of the freshman team are Aldo Velasquez, Angel Dahar, Victor Farias, Jesus Pizano, and Jesus Rosales.  The JV girls ran hard and finished 6^th.  They were led by Beatriz Thames and Tabitha Dhodapkar.  Other members of the team were Lauren Crider, Brianna Roberts and Catherine Tannahill.  The varsity boys and girls will run next Saturday in Humble to compete for a chance to go to state.

> We will have try outs on Friday Nov 6th after school on the half day until 3:30 for both 7th and 8th grade boys. Then Monday Nov 9 after school till 4:30 with the first round of cuts. Tuesday Nov 10th we will have tryouts and the 2nd round of cuts till 4:30. The first day of practice for 8th grade will be Wednesday November 11th after school till 4:45, 7th grade 1st day of practice will be Thursday November 12 at 5:45am. Players must have a ride to school everyday.
