Debate
Eddie Reyes placed 3rd in Students Congress and Kathy Phan won 3rd place in the Lincoln Douglas debate. Sehar Hirani advanced to quarter finals and Danny Alexander advanced to octo-finals in Lincoln Douglas. Phuong Nguyen advanced to semi-finals in Prose interpretation, Danny reached semi-finals in Expemporaneous Speaking, and Charles Nguyen reached semi-finals in Impromptu Speaking. Congratulations!
Band
This past weekend five RAM Band students auditioned for the Texas All state bands. The results were as follows:
Gram Lee (10) 3rd Chair - All State Member
Javier Casas (12) 5th Chair - Alternate to All State
Alex Van Dyke (10) 3rd Chair - Alternate to All State
Mark Jablinski (10) 6th Chair
Sarah Ali (12) 13th Chair
Congratulations to Gram Lee on earning this honor and it puts him in the top 2% of ALL Texas high school musicians.
Golf
Congratulations to the boys golf team for shooting a 313 at Falcon Point CC to set a school record. They broke their own record the next day by shooting a 307. Individually, Ryan Roseberry's score of 72 set a school record at Falcon Point, besting the previous mark by three shots. Nick Pierce ended up one shot out of 3rd place, while Anthony Syrko, Zachary Jackson, and Zachary Weik each played well and contributed scores to assist the RAMS.
Jenny Kang shot 81-79 to bring home the 3rd place medal.
Soccer
The JV boys soccer team won their game 2-1 at Memorial High School with freshman Jason Aiken scoring both goals. The varsity came back from a 0-2 score at half time to win 3-2. Yuri Flores scored all three goals.
Basketball
The varsity girls basketball team beat Morton Ranch 62-50 and have started their district play with a perfect record.
Both boys 9th grade teams and the sophomore team won their games against Lamar Consolidated. The varsity won in overtime 74-71. Dominque Thomas led the way for the Rams with 22 points. Aaron Turner and Evan Stewart were also double-digit scorers.
Swimming
The MCHS swim team beat Alief Hastings with seven swimmers establishing new personal best times:
Andy McCaslin: 2:05 in 200 frreestyle
Trevor Campbell: 2:38 in 200 IM
Niko Bugio: 24.62 in 50 freestyle and 1:12.0 in 10 breaststroke
Kevin Smith: 25.92 in 50 freestyle and 6:33 in 500 freestyle
Mitchell Arick: 57.0 in 100 freestyle and 6:09 in 500 freestyle
Powerlifting
The MCHS Powerlifting team returned to action this past weekend with a big win at the Southside Classic. The meet is held yearly at Madison High School and includes several of the top teams in Region IV. The athletes did a great job of competing with pride and representing us well. Several outstanding individual performances were turned in that led to the team title.
