Crime Prevention Seminar to be held February 22nd

From OneCreekWest:

We are pleased to invite you to a seminar on crime prevention for communities with a neighborhood watch program. This seminar will be held on February 22, at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fry Road MUD facility on Saums Road.  Sgt. John Soileau from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department will be the guest speaker.

We believe that there will be materials to be distributed, so we will need to provide Sgt. Soileau an approximate count of the number of attendees. Please e-mail me at your earliest convenience to let us know that you will be in attendance.

This will give us an excellent opportunity to network with communities that are facing the same challenges as well are, and to work to coordinate the delivery of services between the Constables Department & Sheriff’s Department.

Please let us know if you plan to attend by February 19.

Our appreciation to Jim Roadarmel & the board of the Fry Road MUD, who are letting us use their facility.  The address is 20111 Saums Road, Katy TX 77449.

Kindest regards

Katy ISD addressed attendance boundry rumors

Attendance Boundary Modification
It has come to our attention that there are several rumors running rampant through the community regarding the ABM. These rumors are inaccurate and we regret the unnecessary stress these rumors are causing some of our district families. Modifying attendance boundaries is a sensitive issue and accurate information is essential. We would like to take this time to address some of these rumors:
Rumor 1) An e-mail is currently circulating in the community stating that all of the neighborhoods under consideration for ABM will be attending Taylor High School next year.
FACT: The map below indicates in yellow which neighborhoods are under consideration for ABM at this time.  While the ABM recommendation to be discussed has some neighborhoods currently attending Cinco Ranch High moving to Taylor High School next year, the district has not considered moving any neighborhoods from Seven Lakes to Taylor. The district is, however, considering moving some neighborhoods from Seven Lakes to Cinco Ranch.

Rumor 2) It has also been circulating in the community that high school students who may be moved from their current high school to another and participate in athletics may need to sit out one year for eligibility per UIL rules.
FACT: UIL eligibility will not be an issue. In fact, the district has been studying scenarios resulting in the least disruption to students. It is anticipated that current high school students will remain unaffected by the ABM. In other words, students currently in the 9th - 11th grades will stay at their current high school until graduation. In addition, families with younger siblings will have the opportunity to attend the same high school as the older sibling, as long as they both attend at the same time.
Living in a fast growth district comes with many opportunities, and some challenges as well. We understand that with an issue as emotionally charged as ABM, there are those who will take advantage of the situation and use it as an opportunity to spread misinformation. Unfortunately, this does nothing but cause anxiety in the community. Thank you for looking to us for accurate information and please continue to send e-mails to communications@katyisd.org so that we can have the opportunity to address these rumors and help separate fact from fiction.

Updates from the Coaches:

Golf:
The Rams suffered through two days of absolutely brutal playing conditions but persevered and came away with a HUGE victory in FB Austin Invitational at Greatwood Golf Club January 29-30.  Traditionally a very strong field shows up to this tournament, as most of the best teams in region play their top 5 here.  In third place after shooting a 312 on day one (a school record at that course), the mighty Rams came back with a 304 on day two to beat Cinco Ranch by a single shot.  That includes a team back-nine score of 2 under par!  Ryan Roseberry led the team with a two-day total of 149 (including setting another school record score of 73 on Saturday).  A red-hot putter on the second day helped Zachary Jackson to a 153, a miracle birdie from jail on 14 on day two helped Anthony Syrko to a two-day total of 157, Nick Pierce shot 1-under on the back on Saturday to finish in style with 162, and Zachary Weik played very consistent and finished strong on day two to shoot 164 for the weekend. This is the biggest win in MCHS golf history and gives notice to the region that we are for real.  I could not be more proud of the effort these gentlemen put forth! They must have heard me say it a hundred times this weekend, but we definitely found out that EVERY SHOT COUNTS!!!    Next up for these gentlemen is River Ridge this weekend.  Please congratulate them and wish them luck this weekend.

Girls Basketball:
Season is winding down with 3 games left in regular season play.  The Freshman team has a record of 14/9 overall 4/3 in district, JV is 14/5 overall and 4/3 in district and Varsity is 19/9 overall and 4/3 in district which puts them in 3rd place in the district.

Boys Basketball:
The boys have fought hard all season and are playing with a lot of heart.  They lost a big game last Friday night against Morton Ranch but are in 2nd place in the district.  5 games remain in the regular season.

Powerlifting:
The Team is off to a great start.  They took 4th place @ The Chavez meet.  Scored 54 points and won the Madison Meet.  They also placed 2nd @ Montgomery.

Mayde Creek will be hosting the Region IV Championship on March 13, 2010 in the competition gym.  Please come out and watch this exciting event.

Girls Soccer:
The girls have done really well in non-district play and begin and have their 1st district this Friday against Seven Lakes at Mayde Creek.  Come on out and rally the girls on to a victory.

Boys Soccer;
The boys have been very successful in non-district play and will begin district this Friday against seven Lakes at Seven Lakes.

Swimming/Diving:
The swim team swam in the District Finals over the weekend and have 4 Rams who qualified for Regionals.
